Per-payment figures are the all-in total divided by 3 and rounded. The number of payments and the schedule differ by partner — Happy Pay splits over 2 — and your own plan depends on that partner's approval. You see it in full before you confirm. Fares are the lowest seen for a sample date about six weeks out, not a quote; airline pricing moves constantly.

About Maputo

Maputo is a short flight from Johannesburg and feels a long way from it — a Portuguese-influenced capital of wide avenues, seafood restaurants and a lively music scene on the Indian Ocean.

It is also the entry point for southern Mozambique's beaches, with Ponta do Ouro to the south and the long coastline running north towards Inhambane.

Getting in from the airport

Maputo International (MPM) is about 6 km from the city centre, roughly 15 to 20 minutes. Taxis and e-hailing are available; agreeing a fare in advance is sensible.

Entry requirements for South African passport holders

South African passport holders have historically been able to enter Mozambique for short tourist stays without a visa arranged in advance, under a regional arrangement. Requirements have changed more than once in recent years — confirm the current position with the Mozambican High Commission or your airline before you travel.

Entry rules change. Confirm the current requirements with the destination's embassy or consulate before you travel — this page is a guide, not an authority.
