Per-payment figures are the all-in total divided by 3 and rounded. The number of payments and the schedule differ by partner — Happy Pay splits over 2 — and your own plan depends on that partner's approval. You see it in full before you confirm. Fares are the lowest seen for a sample date about six weeks out, not a quote; airline pricing moves constantly.
Best time to fly
Weather, crowds and fares move together in Inhambane. These are the trade-offs.
April to October
Dry season — the most reliable conditions, comfortable temperatures and good visibility underwater.
November to December
Hotter and more humid as the rains build; whale sharks often about.
January to March
Wet, hot, and within cyclone season.
Before you go
Malaria
A malaria area year-round. Take medical advice on prophylaxis before travelling.
Sandy roads
Access to some beach lodges is soft sand. Confirm whether your transfer or hire vehicle can manage it.
Cash
Bring cash — card acceptance outside the larger lodges is unreliable.
About Inhambane
Inhambane is one of the oldest settlements on the East African coast, and the airport serves the beaches just east of it — Tofo and Barra, long-standing favourites with South African travellers.
The draw is the water: whale sharks pass through much of the year, manta rays are resident, and the diving is the reason many people return.
Getting in from the airport
Inhambane Airport (INH) is close to town, with Tofo about 20 to 30 minutes away by road. Lodges arrange transfers; the final stretch to some beach accommodation is sandy and may need a 4x4.
Entry requirements for South African passport holders
South African passport holders have historically been able to enter Mozambique for short tourist stays without a visa arranged in advance. The rules have changed more than once — confirm the current requirement before travelling.
Entry rules change. Confirm the current requirements with the destination's embassy or consulate before you travel — this page is a guide, not an authority.
