Per-payment figures are the all-in total divided by 3 and rounded. The number of payments and the schedule differ by partner — Happy Pay splits over 2 — and your own plan depends on that partner's approval. You see it in full before you confirm. Fares are the lowest seen for a sample date about six weeks out, not a quote; airline pricing moves constantly.

Best time to fly

Weather, crowds and fares move together in Victoria Falls. These are the trade-offs.

  • February to May

Peak flow after the rains. The falls at their most dramatic — and the spray heavy enough to obscure the view and soak you.

  • June to August

High water easing, clear views, cool dry weather. The most popular window, and the best for combining with game viewing.

  • September to January

Low water. Less spectacular flow, but the best time for rafting and for swimming at Devil's Pool when conditions allow.

Before you go

Currency

US dollars are widely used for tourism services. Carry small denominations — change can be difficult.

Malaria

This is a malaria area, with risk highest in the wet summer months. Take medical advice on prophylaxis before travelling.

Getting wet

In high-water months the spray is torrential. A rain jacket is genuinely useful, and waterproof your phone.

Two sides

The falls can be viewed from Zimbabwe or Zambia. Only the Zimbabwean side (VFA) is currently bookable through us.

About Victoria Falls

The Zambezi drops more than a hundred metres into a basalt gorge here, and in full flood the spray rises high enough to be seen from a long way off — the local name, Mosi-oa-Tunya, means 'the smoke that thunders'.

The town is compact and built around the falls, with rafting below the gorge, sunset cruises upstream, and Hwange National Park a few hours south. Chobe in Botswana is close enough for a day trip.

Getting in from the airport

Victoria Falls Airport (VFA) is about 20 km from town, roughly 25 minutes. Most hotels run transfers and will arrange one with your booking; taxis are available at the terminal. The town itself is walkable and the falls entrance is a short walk or drive from most accommodation.

Entry requirements for South African passport holders

South African passport holders have historically been able to enter Zimbabwe for tourism without a visa arranged in advance. Requirements and permitted stay do change, and a KAZA UniVisa covering Zimbabwe and Zambia is sometimes available at the border — confirm the current position with the Zimbabwean embassy or your airline before you travel.

Entry rules change. Confirm the current requirements with the destination's embassy or consulate before you travel — this page is a guide, not an authority.
