Per-payment figures are the all-in total divided by 3 and rounded. The number of payments and the schedule differ by partner — Happy Pay splits over 2 — and your own plan depends on that partner's approval. You see it in full before you confirm. Fares are the lowest seen for a sample date about six weeks out, not a quote; airline pricing moves constantly.
Best time to fly
Weather, crowds and fares move together in Lagos. These are the trade-offs.
November to March
Dry season — the most comfortable window, though the harmattan haze can reduce visibility in December and January.
April to October
Wet season. Hot, humid and often heavily rained on, with the peak around June.
Before you go
Visa in advance
A visa must be arranged before travel and processing is not quick. Do not leave it late.
Yellow fever
Proof of vaccination is required for entry. Carry the certificate.
Malaria
A malaria area. Take medical advice on prophylaxis before travelling.
Traffic
Allow hours, not minutes, for airport transfers. Flights are missed here routinely.
About Lagos
Lagos is West Africa's largest city and its commercial engine — enormous, fast and loud, with a music and film industry that shapes culture well beyond Nigeria's borders.
Most traffic on this route is business or family travel. Victoria Island and Ikoyi hold most international hotels; Lekki stretches east along the coast.
Getting in from the airport
Murtala Muhammed International (LOS) is about 20 km from Victoria Island, but Lagos traffic is famously severe and the drive can take two hours or more. Arrange a transfer through your hotel and allow far more time than the distance suggests.
Entry requirements for South African passport holders
Nigeria requires South African passport holders to obtain a visa before travelling. Applications are made in advance and can take time — start the process well ahead, and confirm current requirements with the Nigerian High Commission.
Entry rules change. Confirm the current requirements with the destination's embassy or consulate before you travel — this page is a guide, not an authority.
