About Blantyre
Blantyre is Malawi's commercial centre and its oldest city, set among hills in the south of the country. It carries most of the business traffic.
It is also the better arrival point for southern Malawi — Liwonde National Park, Majete Wildlife Reserve and the Mulanje Massif, the country's best hiking, are all closer to here than to Lilongwe.
Getting in from the airport
Chileka International (BLZ) is about 15 km north of the city. Arrange a transfer in advance — options at the terminal are limited. Liwonde and Majete are a couple of hours away by road.
